Luke’s Pinot Noir, Balfour Winery
Light raspberry/cherry nose with a hint of grilled meat. Palate is light too, but don’t let that fool you into thinking this is a lightweight wine. This is an English Pinot Noir that wouldn’t be out of place in a Burgundy tasting. Those raspberry/cherry notes are persistent with sour plum acidity and come with hints of ash, graphite and baking spice.

With our estate’s combination of the prime Wealden clay vineyards, Burgundy clones and careful winemaking, our winemakers have built Balfour’s reputation for producing some of England’s finest red wines. And Luke’s Pinot Noir is a superb example of a style which is growing in reputation and drinking brilliantly right now.
This style is closer to New World Pinot Noir, rather than traditional French examples, but still comes from Burgundy clones. It’s the best of both worlds. It has an amazing hint of ash on the palate – similar to a Pinot from the Cote du Beaune. Lightly oaked, with judicious use of French and American barrels to add a savoury complexity and depth.
Classic cool climate Pinot Noir, delicately aromatic with Red berry fruits, cherry, raspberry and spicy vanilla with soft but firm tannins.
