100% Marselan, Cellier des Chartreux
We’re big fans of unsung grape varieties and Marselan is one such grape. It was developed in the sixties as a hybrid of Cabernet Sauvignon and Grenache, with the intention of producing a high yield, low character table wine. It failed. It turned out much more interesting than that. It’s a low yielding, disease resistant grape that lends itself to low-intervention farming and makes powerful, leathery, herbal wines. If you’re looking for something different, look no further.

This is another Rise & Vine exclusive, imported directly from this great co-operative on the western side of the Rhône Valley. It’s a smooth, earthy wine which packs a surprising amount of power for its price point. Think blackberries and currants, wild herbs and just a touch of forest undergrowth. Great with a steak.
