Finca Moncloa Cabernet Syrah
The two main grapes in this complex blend are two of the world’s most planted grapes; Cabernet Sauvignon and Syrah. But what distinguishes this wine from other similar blends is the inclusion of a small but influential portion of ‘the lost grape’ – Tintilla de Rota.
Discover the deep, sweet tones that Tintilla de Rota imparts to this otherwise dry, powerful, leathery, earthy wine.

Tintilla de Rota had two challenges facing its existence: It is a black grape variety native to Andalucia and was very popular as a sweet red wine variety in the 18th and 19th Centuries, including with the Spanish royal family. But by the middle of the 20th Century, sweet wines had fallen from popularity and most of Anadlucia’s Tintilla de Rota had been grubbed up and replaced by other varietals. Then almost all the remaining vineyards were lost in the construction of a huge US Navy base and airport in the town of Rota. A few hectares survived and have been lovingly restored by (with a few others) Gonzalez Byass at Finca Moncloa.
A blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah, Tintilla de Rota and Petit Verdot aged for 12 months in French and American oak barrels. A cherry red wine with intense aromas of red and black fruits and a balanced palate with notes of fruit, spice and oak.
