Continuing the previous theme of not giving too much oxygen to ‘El Grande Naranja’, let’s begin this missive by talking about less high profile political figures. Yes, Kemi, that’s you that is. As your adoring fans both fight their way through the tumbleweed and Bobby ‘The Jab’ Generic lurks behind you complaining about non-white faces, we held our breath in North Weezy, to see if you would sparkle, if your keynote would be a banger, or would Manchester take control and make sure your squib was a damp one?
All of course, is a long-winded (do I do any other kind?) way of bringing the conversation round to sparklers and bangers!
At the beginning of next month, we’re running two tasting events with a distinctly pyrotechnic theme: Sparklers is our annual sparkling wine tasting evening – this year with a guest appearance by Sussex’s Rathfinny Wine Estate, showcasing their Sussex sparkling wines; and Bangers is the theme for our next Open Season drop-in wine tasting focusing on bigger, bolder wines suited to days turning cooler and nights growing longer.
We’re getting our marketing out now to encourage you to mark your diaries and, in the case of the Sparklers tasting, to buy your tickets now, before the distraction of half-term comes along and… well… distracts you.
Sparklers Wine Tasting
Tickets £50 (includes £10 voucher)
Wednesday 5 November, 8-10pm
We’re working on the basis that bonfire parties and fireworks displays are all at the weekend, so falling as it does on a Wednesday this year, you’ll not be overcommitted on yer actual November 5. Which makes it too good a date not to be hosting a Sparklers evening?
That night, we’ll be opening 9 sparkling wines and taking you on a tour through a selection of our sparkling wine range, from Prosecco to Champagne, via Cava, Pet Nat and sparkling red. The evening will feature a special presentation by Rathfinny of three of their Sussex sparklers, which we are sure will convince you – should you not be so already – that England is now capable of producing sparkling wines as sophisticated and complex as many a Champagne.
Tickets are £50, including a £10 voucher for you to spend on the night. (Think how much would four glasses of pretty average Prosecco cost you in your local boozer?) and on top of that, we’re offering 10% off on purchases of three or more bottles. Added up, the total value of the wines on tasting come to more than £250, so who can argue with that? Snacks will be served with the wines.
Bangers Open Season Wine Tasting
Drop-in, Entry FREE
Saturday 8 November, 2-6pm
All you need to do is come along
Unless you’re a newbie, you should know the form by now: every couple of months we blag a couple of dozen sample bottles from our wholesalers, pop the corks and share them with anybody (over 18, obvs) who wishes to come and try. This time around, we’ll be showcasing a few new wines to our range but also highlighting the bigger numbers on our shelves, those best suited to supping with hearty fare or beside a roaring fire after a bracing hike.
