Pierre Gimonnet & Fils ‘Cuis Premier Cru’ Champagne Blanc de Blancs
Pierre Gimonnet et Fils produce only Blanc de Blanc Cuvees – and my don’t they do it well…
Lighter and more direct flavours than the traditional ‘classic cuvée’ (Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, Pinot Meunier), there’s a good squeeze of Sicilian lemon in the top notes, but underneath – due to longer maturation of the base wine – you’ll find notes of light honey and custard-creamy vanilla.

Nobody has yet to explain to us convincingly what ‘cuis premier cru’ means. We know premier cru – that’s the best wine of the vineyard or even the region. But normally cuis means cooked or cooking. Well this definitely is a very nice option for cooking with (although personally very little – I mean verrrry little – would actually make it into my sauce!). However, there’s a French colloquialism, “il est cuis” – he is cooked, which translates as “he’s pissed”. That it? (Sorry. Pulling your leg. Cuis is a village just south of Epernay. )
Beautifully pure, floral nose. On the palate there’s a racy, energetic feel with high toned citrus fruit providing thrilling focus and definition, white flowers and crisp apple join the chorus and nuances of stone fruit, acacia and brioche are all joined with an underlying minerality. Lovely purity and vitality run like a vein through the wine, which has a long, creamy, slightly nutty finish.
