Tschida Spätlese Merlot
A really unusual wine made from the juice of late harvested Merlot grapes where crisp acidity beautifully balances the deep sweetness of extremely ripe grapes.

A style of wine often called dessert wine – and this one is great with fresh fruit desserts – this wine really comes into its own where its balance of sweetness and acidity come into play. It’s great with cheese – astonishingly so with blue cheese – and also works really well with rich starters such as chicken liver paté and (old school French eaters take note) and foie gras.
It also has a refreshingly low alcohol level – 8% ABV.
Vibrant salmon pink in colour, it has a really attractive nose of wild strawberries, sour cherry, rhubarb and some herbaceous notes. It’s sweet but lifted in the palate with the crisp acidity of red fruits with a hint of spice to create a really energetic and fresh ‘dessert wine’, great with salty hard cheeses, as well as blue, plus fruit-driven puddings and chocolate desserts.
This is a late-harvest wine, the grapes are left on the vine until over-ripe with a higher sugar content, picking occurs in late autumn. The wine is fermented and stored in stainless steel on the lees until bottling and release.
