Vignobles Bertin Clos l’Hermitage Lalande de Pomerol
Lalande de Pomerol. Nope, not La La Land, but the village down the road from Pomerol itself. Maybe not the absolute prestige vineyards of the likes of Petrus up the road, but the grape varieties are the same and the geology, geography and the weather are all as near as dammit. So ‘satellite villages’ such as Lalande (as well as the likes of Fronsac and Puisseguin in neighbouring St Emilion) offer much of the character of their illustrious neighbours at more affordable prices. Not all are good, however, but this one is an absolute cracker!
