Scottish Champagne?? Well kind of… A champagne specially developed for our friends at the Port of Leith Distillery, recognising Leith as traditionally Scotland’s premier port for the importing and distribution of Champagne and immortalising the ‘Auld Alliance’ between Scotland and France.

A champagne special developed for our friends at the Port of Leith Distillery, recognising Leith as traditionally Scotland’s premier port for the importing and distribution of Champagne and immortalising the ‘Auld Alliance’ between Scotland and France in the form of La Garde Ecossaise du Corp du Roi (the King’s Scottish bodyguard) – the 6,000 Scottish soldiers who went to fight with the French king against ‘the dirty English’ in the 1420s in Aquitaine, France. Unfortunately for them – as seems to be the case in many of these Anglo-Scots encounters – they weren’t too succesful and most of them died at the battle of Vermeuil. They didn’t even get to steal the goalposts!
Because we’re all one big happy family now – No, don’t metion the B word. The one that ends in exit. – we have gotten hold of some of this lovely fizz. Ithas a classic light golden colour with aromas of white fruits like peach and apricot and a gentle citrus note. On the palate, it’s apples and pears with delicate ripe stone fruits, a luxurious creamy character and a touch of rich brioche.
La Garde Ecossaise Champagne is produced and bottled for the Leith Export Company by Martell in Epernay with a blend of 46% Pinot Noir, 37% Pinot Meunier, 17% Chardonnay, and a dosage of 10 g/l.
